Here, I totally disagree. I really like your stuff but you are wrong here. Since the left arm stays straight arc cannot increase or decrease. What you are demonstrating is a forward weight shift. This moves the same size arc forward rather than making shorter. And we are back to the elusive issue of when to firing the wrists to reach the lowest point, which is to be in front of the ball. The issue then is whether this is accomplished with a down chop or the rolling over of the flexed left wrist. This is the struggle that I have.

What should your main thought be starting downswing..weight shift .. covering the ball with upper body... I tend to hit 1/2 inch behind the ball

Thank you so much for this tip. I've never been able to figure out why I can't get rid of my early extension and end up shanking the ball because my hands get away from my body as well. Excited to give this a try!

I have long respected you as a very good golf teacher. I can't help feeling anxious about any kind of dipping or as you put it "pressure" building in the left leg on the beginning of the downswing. My personal concern with this advice from you as well from others is how to return the clubhead to the correct height at impact, fearing thin and fat shots.

Keeping the chin up definitely helps to get the left shoulder under the chin, otherwise your shoulder pushes you back and makes you sway. I don't remember who does it, but there is a pro who tucks his shirt under his left armpit in order to keep it against his torso, similar to what you advocate with a glove or head cover. He is not violating any rules since he's not using a training aid, per se.

This is wonderful sir, thank you very much for the explanation. One thing I will kindly ask, could you create a supplement or even a short about reading a lie in the bunker? I struggle when playing in tournaments evaluating the lie which can often dictate what kind of shot you play… firms sand, ball sitting down a bit etc. would be massively helpful

Hello Jonathan....great content.......could you please help reconcile the 'some amount of supination and pronation' with a throw release? I thought the throw release is the flipping motion, but closer to waist high to keep the face square after impact, and less rotation. thank you and great job!

When you do that backswng and downswing what goes on in your hands , ? Do you just hold on to it and let the body control the arms and hands or do. you apply pressure or cock your wrists or apply a force throuhg your arms? Ot just let the body rotation control the arms and hands?

This is fantastic. This is something that has plagued me for years. Under the plane, strong in to out pattern producing block, hooks, and fat/thin shots. Jonathon, the one thing that is a challenge for me is going from takeaway to the top of the swing, the hinge per se. Should the hinge be more vertical taking it to the top? Thanks

Great video and great timing, because correct release is exactly my issue at the moment. Your demo of the incorrect release could have been a video of me. I think the thumb exercise could be just what I need to visualise where I need to get to, fingers crossed, not literally. The video definitely gives me a clear image of where I need to get to and that is worth so much. Thank you.
